ADG formula
Average Daily Gain = (Final Weight − Initial Weight) ÷ DaysADG expresses average body-weight change per day over a measured period.
How to interpret the result
A positive result means average weight gain, zero means no net weight change, and a negative result means average weight loss over the period. Whether a particular ADG is appropriate depends on species, age, production stage, diet, management, health, and the production objective; this generic calculator does not assign performance ratings.
Source & methodology
Penn State Extension describes ADG as total weight gain divided by the number of days between weights. CalculateMeasure applies that arithmetic after converting the entered weights to a common unit.
Calculator guide
About the Average Daily Gain Calculator
Average daily gain measures weight gained per day over a defined period.
What to keep in mind
- Use the same weight units for starting and ending weights.
- The number of days must match the measurement interval.
- Short intervals can be more sensitive to normal weight variation.
Formula & methodology
Calculate average daily gain (ADG) for livestock from initial weight, final weight, and number of days.
