Calculator guide

How to use the Masonry Sand Calculator

Estimate masonry sand volume from finished mortar volume, a dry-volume factor, sand share of the mix, and allowance. Enter the requested values and select Calculate. The result and supporting values are produced locally in your browser.

Formula

Sand Volume = Mortar Volume × Dry Factor × Sand Parts ÷ (Cement Parts + Sand Parts) × (1 + Allowance %)

Worked example

For 20 ft³ of mortar with a 1:3 cement-to-sand ratio, 1.33 dry factor, and 10% allowance, estimated sand is about 21.95 ft³.

What to keep in mind

  • Actual mortar mix design, moisture, bulking, waste, and product requirements vary.
  • Use the specified mortar mix and supplier guidance for ordering.
